Tall Ships & Yacht Races - What are they?
We try to take part in Tall Ship, local regattas & racing events every year. Races we currently enter are mostly single day
or short 3 or 4 day events. We are planning on entering a Tall Ships race event when we can and these races will cover much greater
mileage and visit several countries. Depending on the race we may organise the trips into different 'legs' that young people can join.
Tall Ships Races
The Tall Ships Races are organised every year by Sail Training International, whose members offer Sail Training experiences world-wide.
Each year ships from around the world gather together to participate in challenging offshore and ocean racing, and to share and enjoy
the ensuing shoreside festivities and celebrations. These events are youth-focused and bring a huge spectacle to the ports they call at.
We hope to take part in our first Tall Ships Race soon.
ASTO Cowes Small Ships Race
Starting in 2021 we are planning to enter Helen Mary R into the annual ASTO Cowes Small Ships Race.
This is a fantastic end to the season,
where we get to meet up with the rest of the UK Sail Training Fleet for a weekend of fun and racing.
Fowey Royal Regatta
Every year we enter the annual opening race of the Fowey Royal Regatta; the Fowey, Flushing Race. This is made up of two races over two days; the first, from
Fowey to Flushing and the second from Flushing back to Fowey. The race (and sailing regatta as a whole) is organised by POFROC
(Port of Fowey Race Organising Committee) and every year they fund & very kindly support, local young people in being
able to take part; it's a fantastic opportunity to give young people a taste of yacht racing without any barriers to entry!
