A true adventure voyage with plenty of sailing mixed with time to explore ashore! The isles of Scilly are an archipelago of five inhabited islands and 140 scattered islets at the southwestern-most point of the UK – and lying 28nm pretty much directly into the Atlantic swell and prevailing winds – the Isles of Scilly are rumoured to be tricky place to reach.

If you are up to the challenge and we have the right conditions, sailing from Cornwall to the Isles of Scilly can be a hugely rewarding experience. You might find yourself sailing with a pod of dolphins or even basking sharks.

The trip will see us sailing from Fowey and complete two open sea passages in the Atlantic Ocean! But first, we’ll sail to Falmouth which gives us a convenient starting point for our first long passage to the Scillies.

Leaving Falmouth, we will sail westerly via The Lizard Peninsula and Land's End and out into the Atlantic, the passage is approximately 50 nautical miles, and the total sailing time is around 12 hours. A fantastic opportunity to get used to a proper watch system aboard.

Once we raise the Isles of Scilly, you will find it an enchanting island that is a sailor’s paradise, with hidden inlets and coves to explore and the sweet, slow pace of island life. Of course, we’ll need to make sure we keep an eye on the weather patterns and be prepared to change anchorage if need be or run for shelter back on the mainland. It’s all part of the adventure!

Once we’ve had a chance to explore the numerous islands and sheltered bays we’ll sail back towards Falmouth and stop in the Helford river overnight before our final short sail back to Fowey

Adventure Sailing
Adventure Sailing

We have grouped our voyages into categories so you have a better idea as what to expect during the voyage.

Our Adventure sailing trips cover much greater mileage than an explorer trip. Head to sea and sail for a few days or nights and really get into life on board an ocean going yacht. We aim to allow a good bit of time to head ashore and explore, but as distances increase so does our reliance on weather windows & conditions. Adventure sailing trips are great intermediaries between explorers and expeditions.
