The starting race of the Royal Fowey Regatta, fully funded by POFROC, free voyage for local Fowey young people.

Fowey Flushing Race

3 days | 13th Aug - 15th Aug 2022

Royal Fowey Regatta dates back to the early 1800's and is much more than a sailing event, with a huge variety of onshore activities as well as lots of racing! Every year we enter the first cruiser race of the regatta; the Fowey, Flushing Race. Racing to Flushing, and then back from Falmouth. The Port of Fowey Race Organising Committee funds this voyage every year so that local young people (who might not have access to sailing) to Fowey can take part.

The Fowey, Flushing Race is a fantastic opportunity for local young people to experience the thrill and excitement of yacht racing. This voyage is fully funded by the kind generosity of the Port of Fowey Race Organising Committee (POFROC) who want to make sailing and yacht racing as inclusive as possible.

Open to local young people aged 14+ who live in Fowey and its surrounding areas. There is no cost to taking part.

The race will see young people joining Helen Mary R on Saturday morning for a day sailing into St Austell Bay and some exciting race training followed by a hearty meal back on our mooring in Fowey. Actual racing will start on the Sunday with a 6hr passage race to Flushing in Falmouth. This first race of the regatta will see us beating to windward, rounding Dodman Point and finally crossing the Flushing yacht club line in the late afternoon.

The second race starts from Falmouth and is another passage race back to Fowey, passing the Dodman the other way with the finish crossing the Royal Fowey Yacht Club line in the heart of Fowey to cheers and a cannon!

This is a fantastic opportunity for local young people to experience life afloat and the adrenaline rush of racing other boats. No experience is necessary and full instruction will be given.

A note about crew selection: As we expect to be over subscribed we may need to select participants in consultation with the PROFROC committee.

Tall Ships and Yacht Races
Tall Ships and Yacht Races

We have grouped our voyages into categories so you have a better idea as what to expect during the voyage.

Nothing can quite prepare you for the unforgettable atmosphere of racing. Picture yourself sailing on a beautiful Tall Ship, way out at sea, with the waves crashing against the hull, no land in sight, the sun rising behind you, and your closest competitor hot on your heels. Most Races and Regattas are broken down into “legs,” or races. We also enter local regattas and races which are normally a little shorter in length.

  •   Great for everyone, trophies and prizes up for grabs
  •   Visit & Explore amazing places
