Discovering the Channel Islands is a fantastic adventure for those who venture across the channel. With beautiful beaches, fascinating history and wonderfully friendly people, each of the Channel Islands has something special to offer. We'll sail first to Salcombe which gives us a good stepping off point for our first cross channel sail. Our first crossing will take around 16 hours or so with and early start in the morning, with two shipping lanes to cross. A fantastic opportunity to get into the watch system and be well versed in navigation and helming by the time we make landfall.
With its own unique charm, Alderney is our first port of call in the Channel Islands. Bicycles are available for hire or we can even walk round the island which is just 3 squre miles! This is a small island with a population of just 2,500. It's only half a (nautical) mile up the hill to the narrow cobbled streets, shops and restaurants of St Annes for some great exploring.
A quick sail through the Swinge or Alderney race to St Peter Port in Guernsey provides some exciting sailing along with very interesting navigation. Once in Guernsey we will be well placed to explore the smaller Islands of Herm and Sark before returning over night across the Channel to Fowey.
We have grouped our voyages into categories so you have a better idea as what to expect during the voyage.
Our Adventure sailing trips cover much greater mileage than an explorer trip. Head to sea and sail for a few days or nights and really get into life on board an ocean going yacht. We aim to allow a good bit of time to head ashore and explore, but as distances increase so does our reliance on weather windows & conditions. Adventure sailing trips are great intermediaries between explorers and expeditions.
