Navigating through the Covid-19 pandemic

As you are aware we've had to postpone all our voyages for the time being due to COVID-19, but we wanted you to still be aware that the work continues behind the scenes!  We have a long list of objectives and opportunities to make the project stronger than ever before!  We want to make sure that we are ready to hit the ground running as soon as government restrictions are lifted and the world is ready again!

In the meantime, we would like to remind everyone that the crowdfunder for #ASPIRE360 is still running, please continue to share the link, it is more than ever important to get this trip funded considering the amount of opportunities that have been cancelled recently. Crowdfunder are kindly supporting the campaign and allowing it to run on beyond the deadline, because of the current situation, but it is still live!

Also if anyone is at a loose end due to current employment issues and has a penchant for bid writing we would be really happy to welcome you to the team temporarily (or more permanently! If you want to stay, we won’t discourage you!).  We are continuing to apply for funding for #ASPIRE360, sadly some funding was lost due to coronavirus, but we won’t be discouraged!  However we also want to research any grants available to aid paying staffing or refit costs, we are however limited by the amount of time that we have.  Ideally we want to create a bursary for young people that don’t have the financial means to afford a voyage.

We also want to create a charity to run alongside the project and aid the project in its work, we are currently a Community Interest Company or Not for Profit Organisation.  To start a charity we need a board of trustees.  This is something we have been hoping to achieve for a while now.  Matt and I run everything in the project, all the admin, voyages, volunteers, marketing, social media and so much more.  We know that for the project to grow and succeed we need a larger core of people to help us.  So if you would be interested please drop us a line with your passions and experience!

Also we are going to start a waiting list. We feel that in times like this is important to have something to look forward to!  Y oung people are dealing with schools closing, end of year proms cancelled and final exams being postponed or cancelled and that must be concerning for them and their futures. I am sure that contingency plans will be put in place for them, but in the meantime, the prospect of an adventure will hopefully help.  There is evidence that voyages have helped as gateway experience for marine based careers.  So please sign up to our waiting and as soon as voyages become available again we will email you directly.

Thank you again for all your support and encouragement during this unusual and unsettling time.  Stay positive and look after one another!
