After our successful selection day at the Mount Batten Watersports and Activity Centre we have chosen the final group of young people to take part in ASPIRE360 and the undertake the adventure of a lifetime! The 8 young people below will step aboard Helen Mary R in Plymouth's Sutton harbour and set sail in a major circumnavigation of the UK, sailing over 1735 nautical miles, visiting 16 amazing ports and 2 countries. They've met just once and most have never sailed before; they will need to work together to set sails, steer, keep watch and even cook. Swaping the comforts of home for single bunks, a moving deck, strong winds, freezing temperatures and rough seas at times throughout the trip; as well as marvelling at our beautiful coastline under sun-drenched skies. It will be a feat of pure physical, mental, emotional and academic endurance, but one which will leave the young people changed forever. They will make strong bonds with their crew mates, increase their own understanding of themselves and their boundaries and most importantly have the confidence that they can try and excel at anything!

After we depart on the 2nd April 2017 and set sail, each member of the crew will be uploading a ship's log to the website.

The Crew

Beth is studying Adventure Education at Plumpton College (East Sussex). She is passionate about outdoor experience and is an active member of Girlguiding UK. Beth is ready to embrace the challenges of Aspire 360. She is most looking forward developing new skills from sailing to catering for her crew. Her forecast for the extraordinary voyage is laughter, determination and unforgettable memories. This voyage is only made possible by the support of her friends, family, and college.

Hi, i’m Georgia from Tavistock, I’m 14 years old and currently in year 10 at Plymouth High School for Girls. I enjoy music, painting, windsurfing and being an Air Cadet. Just like the other seven teenagers going I can’t wait for ASPIRE360’s departure and really looking forward to the challenges it will present and the people I will meet! I hope this will be the adventure of lifetime and give me experience of what it is like to live and work at sea in support of my ambition of joining the Royal Navy when I’m older.

Hi I’m Antonio. I am 14 and live in Torquay. My hobbies and interests are Sea Cadets, Sea Fishing, Powerboating and anything to do with Ships especially the Titanic.

I would like to join the Royal Fleet Auxiliary when I leave school. My recent achievements I am proud of so far are my powerboat licence Level 2. I love being on the sea whether it’s a yacht, motorboat or even a Ferry. I wanted to be part of the ASPIRE360 Challenge because I think it will be adventurous and a life changing experience. I didn’t imagine I would get an opportunity to do something as amazing as this!

Poppy will have just turned 14 before her adventures with Morvargh. She lives near Tavistock in Devon and goes to school at Plymouth College. She is known to her friends as ‘a bit crazy’ (in a good way we hope!). She absolutely loves anything sporty but particularly hockey, netball and athletics. She has been training to do Ten Tors so likes to put herself through a challenge - but hasn’t really sailed before so is looking forward to learning something new! Her mum thinks her biggest hurdle will be letting go of her phone - but Poppy’s biggest concern is how they are all going to find their Easter eggs on a 57ft ketch! Good point…...

Hi..I'm Kieran. I am 15 years old and I live in Torbay. I'm in year 10 at St Cuthbert Mayne. In my spare time I enjoy sea fishing, going to bmx parks and spending time with my family and friends. I am really looking forward to being part of Aspire 360 and am excited to be able to experience this life changing adventure, which I never imagined I would ever have the chance to do!
